FG Set to Introduce New University Courses into Curriculum

The Federal Government, through the National Universities Commission (NUC), plans to add 12 new courses to Nigerian universities. This decision comes after a full review of the curriculum, following requests from universities and professional groups.

The new courses are:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Classical Christian Education
  • Community Health Science
  • Cooperative Economics and Management Studies
  • Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science
  • Geomatics Engineering
  • Intelligence and Security Studies
  • Parasitology and Entomology
  • Sports Management
  • Telecommunication Science
  • Water Sanitation and Hygiene
  • Islamic Economics and Finance

The NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, said the commission ensures universities follow high academic standards. He stressed the importance of a curriculum that helps students develop critical thinking, adaptability, and job-ready skills.

To refine the courses, 12 expert panels have been set up. Their job is to make sure the courses match industry and national needs. Ribadu encouraged the experts to improve the curriculum by giving useful suggestions, not just pointing out problems.
