The announcement was made at the just-concluded JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja. According to official statistics released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), FUOYE attracted 52,108 applicants, placing it ahead of many first-generation universities and confirming its position as one of the fastest-growing and most sought-after institutions in Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu described the ranking as “a well-deserved validation of FUOYE’s relentless pursuit of academic excellence, student-centered policies, and dynamic leadership.” He further noted that FUOYE’s rapid ascent is a reflection of visionary planning and the collective commitment of staff and students alike. “This is not just a number. It is proof that FUOYE is fast becoming a first-choice destination for thousands of young Nigerians. We are proud of this recognition, and it further motivates us to continue raising the bar,” the acting VC stated
This landmark achievement places FUOYE behind only Lagos State University (LASU – 79,000), University of Lagos (UNILAG – 58,645), and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN – 56,734), while it ranked higher than other prestigious institutions like UNIZIK, UI, UNN, UNIBEN, OAU, and FULAFIA.
As FUOYE secures its place among the top five most preferred universities in Nigeria, the institution is setting its sights even higher. With strategic expansion in academic programs, enhanced digital learning capabilities, and sustained investment in research and innovation, the university is poised to become a global academic powerhouse.
