FUOYE Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, Resumes Duty After Six-Month Leave

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has officially resumed work after spending six months on research and accumulated leave. Speaking during a short ceremony held on campus, Prof. Fasina expressed deep gratitude to God for good health, grace, and the privilege to continue serving the university community.

In his welcome address, titled “Peace – A Key Ingredient for University Development,” the Vice-Chancellor thanked the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olubunmi S. Shittu, for his effective leadership during the period of his absence. He also appreciated other principal officers, including Professor Bolanle T. Opoola (DVC, Administration), Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole (DVC, SPRIL), Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim (Registrar), Professor Isaac Busayo (University Librarian), and Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna (Bursar). He further acknowledged the Deans, Directors, Senate members, and the entire university community for their dedication in maintaining peace and productivity across the institution.

Professor Fasina shared that his time away gave him the opportunity to reflect and learn valuable lessons. He explained that every university faces challenges that test its strength and values, urging staff and students to uphold peace and unity as the foundation for progress.

“It is wiser to learn from past experiences than to keep repeating mistakes,” he said. He encouraged everyone to reflect deeply, forgive easily, and move forward with renewed purpose and understanding.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to FUOYE’s growth, the Vice-Chancellor listed some key priorities for the coming weeks, especially the next phase of programme accreditation. He described it as an important step toward positioning FUOYE among Nigeria’s leading universities.

He appealed to all staff members — from Deans and Heads of Departments to non-teaching staff — to give their best effort. “There’s a lot to be achieved in a short time, and everyone must be fully involved,” he emphasized.

On staff welfare, Professor Fasina announced that the long-awaited Relocation Allowance would soon be paid, assuring that his administration would continue to meet its financial responsibilities. He also mentioned that major ongoing projects, such as the completion of the Senate Building, would be fully executed before the end of his tenure. “This administration must finish strong,” he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed sincere appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, and other council members for their continuous support.

Concluding his remarks, Professor Fasina urged all staff and students to remain united, focused, and resilient. “Together, we will continue to work diligently until the very end of this administration. Let’s stay strong, stay focused, and remember — God always wins!”
