Tinubu Approves New Federal Universities for Osun, Ekiti

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved two new universities on Thursday in Abuja.

The universities are:

  1. Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State.
  2. Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

President Tinubu said these universities will help meet people’s educational needs.

They will promote research and innovation.

The universities will support Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

They will train professionals in agriculture, science, and technology.

This will help Nigeria compete better in the global economy.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) said Nigeria now has:

  • 63 federal universities
  • 63 state universities
  • 149 private universities

On February 3, 2025, President Tinubu approved another university:

  • Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET) in Ogoni town, Tai, Rivers State.

The President also agreed to take over a private university in Southern Kaduna.

This university will now become a federal university.
